Our Cup Runeth Over
On October 3rd 4th, 2014, Improvised Star Trek was excited to participate in the Improv Goblet Festival, hosted by the Improv Kingdom.
Irene Marquette was interview by the Las Vegas Journal Review, and the festival was an opportunity to catch up with old friends. These are the voyages of that weekend:
Encounter with the Essence of Richard Simmons | Earthdate 8:30 Friday
The USS Sisyphus encounters a strange ship inhabited by the most recent in a long line of Richard Simmons clones, and after Lady(Irene Marquette) recites Richard Simmon's biography from memory the crew beam over and are threatened with imprisonment and weight loss. Richard(Griffen Eckstein) has a lot prisoners he's sweating, including a Borg and an overweight clone of himself. Dr. Colfax(Joe Phillips) is starving and gets a baked potato beamed directly into his stomach from the Sisyphus. He's also injured pretty badly, and needs to use Richard' cloning machine to survive, which leaves him with a giant eyeball head($4.99, Target). Richard is allowed to join the crew of the USS Sisyphus, but must mercy kill his old clones first.
Our second show of the night were happy to be joined by Paul Mattingly, founder of the Improv Goblet Festival and former Star Trek: The Experience actor. Paul was also our first ever guest on the podcast, and can be heard in Episode Zero: As Being Human Goes.
Academy Reunion/The Tribbles are Growing | Earthdate 10:00 Friday
Admiral Clovik(Paul Mattingly) beams aboard with a special mission, which involves traveling into a Black Hole. Twist: it's not a Starfleet mission, he's trying to travel back in time to his academy days to resolve his issues with Homecoming, specifically how the crew of the Sisyphus pranked him into thinking he had a date. Dr. Colfax is imprisoned in the brig and bonds with long-term inmate Gary. Corbo ODs on tribble-based antacids and is doomed to die. The crew travel back to the their academy days, but prank Clovik again and then spend the next 15 years re-living out their lives, unable to make meaningful changes. Back in the modern day they again approach the Black Hole and see an opportunity to heal old wounds by re-enacting their Homecoming. Nobody puts Clovik in a corner.
For Saturday we had a special treat, and were joined by Mike Maltz(Computer for our original 2010 live run at iO Chicago) and Aggie Hewitt.
Coke vs. Pepsi | Earthdate 8:30 Saturday
The USS Sisyphus rescues a shuttle but it soon gets distracted when Dr. Colfax grows tired of loading the vending machines and demands to see his Union rep: Shasta Mahasta Pasta Fasta(Mike Maltz). Unattended, the rescued alien wanders into a crew break room. His species has no eyes, which gives the two Vulcan officers who find him a chance to a blind taste test of the ships colas. Twist: one of the Vulcans is a Romulan! There's a strike on the bridge, in which a lizard lawyer represents management. Since science officer Jennifer Aniston(Aggie Hewitt) worships giant lizards as the creators of the universe, its awkward. Shasta is killed by the Romulan and dies decrying his lost pension.
Thanks to Paul for inviting us and sitting in, Mike, and Aggie, the other great teams at the festival and everyone who came out!
